Great report and photos Gary, good onya for tackling the mud and sand on the Dakar.
Those conditions were certainly more suited to the lighter trail bikes but it still looked a terrific day out.in reply to: Auckland BMWOR ride to Cooks Landing 9th July #6041Alex, I wonder if you could maybe cut and paste the report, possibly add a litttle bit about the gravel ride as it looks great, add a couple of those photos and send it to the magazine for the auckland report before the deadline ?
Jim
Also could any of you computer guys and gals tell me why it is so stretched out compared with other posts ?in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5042Yep I have seen that one before Alex, but the problem is that when riding in a group it is difficult to stop to take pics especially when leading.
there are a couple we go past on the register ride next week that Arne pointed out some weeks ago so have your camera ready.
There will also be a gravel option for those so inclined and according to our honourable secretary, who went down it on his ST (By mistake !!) and with a pillion too it's not too bad !!
I have been trying to take a pic of a house on the Ohinewai / Te Huna road for some time but it still looks inhabited and always has people and wrecked cars outside so haven't been game to stop yet.in reply to: NZ visit was GREAT!!!! #5921Couldn’t handle that snow now Jim, I was in Portland Maine on an oiltanker more years ago than I care to remember and it was like that.
A 36 hour discharge took over a week as it was too cold for the oil to flow through the pipes and the snow was piled up so high in the streets it was like walking through tunnels with an open roof.
It was so cold in the engine room that there was snow piled up under all the ventilation ducts and we had snowball fights down there.in reply to: 2007 new colours #5998Alex will have a black GS !!!
I thought they were binning the ST ?in reply to: T-Shirts Would you buy one? #5980Yep I will have one of those Alex

in reply to: Interesting BMW bike photo’s #5959Just love the colour !!!! Certainly would get some looks.
Hope you can get matching helmet and gloves ?in reply to: Auckland Area Rep Report May 28th #5963Nice one Dean,
I did 403km, all up, 191 to the golf course via Coromandel and 212km back via Whitianga.
It certainly turned out to be a cracker of a day weatherwise, although on the way to BP Papakura I was having doubts with all the dark clouds around and all the cars heading north having headlights on.
The wee spot of fog around the Bombay area lasted only a few minutes too.
Just goes to show you can never rely on the weather forecasts.
Also got some brownie points from her indoors by arriving home at the time I said (I mean she said !!) I had to be back to go out to dinner.
So a good day all round.in reply to: Auckland Area Rep Report May 14th #5927Gee Alex, Gerda is not having much look with her gear eh ?
Has it just started leaking or is this the first time she has encountered bad weather ? -
