We might see you down South. If you can fit it into your itinerary you should turn up at the Annual Rally in Alexandra. We have now over 80 attendees confirmed. I am looking forward to meeting you two.Alex
in reply to: Newbie from Norway #8820Looks like Jim is winning the competition then :-). I'll think of both of you while touring the South Island.
in reply to: F650GS Tyre repair #8913I haven't tried it, but I've heard that it is messy to clean up afterwards. I am not sure if it even works all that well on tubed tyres. I'll stick to the ordinary puncture repair method. Wheel off, tube out and repair. Knock on wood, I won't have to do it. I try not to run my tread down to the minimum, to minimize the risk of a puncture. I got lucky recently, when I pulled out a 4cm long nail from the tread of my tubeless tyres, without causing a puncture.
in reply to: Privateer to Ride BMW 650 Xchallenge on the Dakar #8902Thanks Garry, I was too lazy to search. I would prefer if people supplied links to articles that aren't their own. See you soon.
in reply to: R1100R rear-ended by car #8868You can get after-market brake discs from trade-me. I don't think they will pick it. If the rear brake still works it should be fine. Find a place where they don't test ride the bike themselves and you should get the warrant.Disclaimer: I would not ride with brakes that are not 100% and would certainly recommend that you replace the brake disc. Even a secondhand one would be ok.

in reply to: The Molesworth/Rainbow ride, Sat 29/Dec – Nelson #8575Thanks. We'll be riding in the afternoon, but not late afternoon.
Enjoy your trip. I took Gerda's bike to have a new front tire fitted. I've got to say that I've enjoyed the 650. I struggled a bit with the low seat height of Gerda's bike, she's got the low suspension model. It is still comfortable, but I kept slamming my feet into the ground, not expecting it to be so close:-). Make sure you take plenty of photos. We will be down there from the 2nd to the 17th, should be a good ride.Alex
in reply to: The Molesworth/Rainbow ride, Sat 29/Dec – Nelson #8572Thanks, I'd hate to miss out. How long does it take to get through? I think the motorcycle atlas mentions 3-4 hours, how does that match with your experience?Cheers,Alex
in reply to: visting NZ for 3 months #8786Do you know for how long they intend to stay on the South Island? Have you told them about the Annual Rally in Alexandra? We hope to meet up with them at some stage, unfortunately it did not work out in Auckland at the time.
in reply to: The Molesworth/Rainbow ride, Sat 29/Dec – Nelson #8570I take it the Rainbow will be open? I hope this won't affect any of the other “special” roads I intend to ride.
in reply to: cigarette lighter attachment on R1150rt #8694The R1150RT does not have it, so don't worry.
in reply to: Funeral for a friend #8873Good to hear that Barbs knee is okay again. I know that you enjoyed your old Adventure and the new one should be even better. You'll be able to do more gravel roads and you won't have to worry about the road surface so much with the extra suspension travel that the Adventure has. You should keep your Hp2 as well and then you have the ultimate garage.
in reply to: Funeral for a friend #8871You should ride with us again Dean, instead with HOG group :-D. We try to encourage people to ride their own pace. Better to pass someone when it's safe then to follow them too closely. If you are not riding your own pace you lose concentration and end up way too close behind the other rider.
in reply to: Funeral for a friend #8869While reading all this you had me dreading the worst. Thank God you came out alright and with a neat bike as well. Try John Baker, he is good to deal with. I hope your friends on the Aprilia and the Triumph walked away in good shape.Group riding always has the potential for carnage, knock on wood.
