Over the years I've used both of the specialist BMW workshops in Auckland and have been more than happy with the work by each.  However I now live about an hours journey in good traffic from either and it can be a trial when I need an expert to work on the bike, often having to get Jean to follow in the car to take me home and then returning next day to collect.  Today I went to the new kid on the block THE BIKE MAINTENCE SHOP LTD. in Glendene owned and run by Dean Jamieson and his wife Collen.  I arranged a time to be there saying I would have to wait for the work to be done.  Arrived on time and Dean offered to take our helmets and coats (even putting them on a hanger) and a coffee but we were hungry so strolled over to the local sandwhich bar.  An hour later all was done and ready for us to take home.  A really good experience and it has been a long time since I've been able to talk to the mechanic that has worked on the bike for first hand feedback. The small operator has many benefits over the larger workshops and I certainly appreciate this.  Dean and Colleen I'm sure will soon grow a sizeable list of happy clients.

Hi MalcomGood to hear your still ridingYes its hard to get a sevice on a BMW these days I myself will have to do a 160km ride each way .what made u pick that area whwn u live in the Howick area.Darryl

Don't the Auckland shops offer you a loan bike? Motomart in Welly always offers me one – I'm about 20kms away I guess.

Actually 20mins south of Howick but it's the best part of an hour to any of the three servicing options so I thought I'd give Dean a go and the good thing is he can accommodate me by doing the service when I arrive so providing it's not a major I can wait or even nip up to my old friend Noel's place for a coffee.

I must admit to having followed Henry since his arrival in Auckland.  Experience did offer a loan bike when Seb was there but when I went to Cyclespot there was never an offer made although I didn't really require one as I was only 10mins from Barrys Point Road so Jean could pick me up.  I should emphasis I have no complaints with any of the outlets but Dean at BMS can offer a flexiblilty that the others may not be in a position to do.

For a regular service I always get a loaner from Experience. For something longer then I make the effort to drop it off via van, otherwise they're without their loaner for a while.One thing I like (and they make the mistake) is that the loaner is something very average, like a G650GS. No desire to own one of those at all (I've never really got on with thumpers) so there is no danger of wanting to upgrade. I love getting mine back  ;D

Picked up the GS from Dean and Collen at The Bike Maintanance Shop  running sweet as  and no big shock with the bill, Only place to get to get Your bike looked after.

Having moved to Wanganui I now have the options of going to Lower Hutt, 200 km away, Mount Maunganui 375 km away or Auckland which is even further. My last 2 visits at  Motomart in Lower Hutt was not a positive experience. Reluctantly considering selling my GS and moving to something I can get serviced locally. I'm not really sure what to do, but other BMWOR members in my area have sold their Beemers.

One of those unfortunate things about owning a brand with less dealerships. You'd have to get a dirty jappa mostly, to get wider support.Unfortunately (or fortunately for me currently anyway) I love my GSA, and there is no way I see anything else matching it's capabilities.

Yes I do know Mike and I will contact him when the time comes. I like my GS and would prefer to stay with this.

after reading all these positive comments I took my bobber to Dean and Colleen at BMS (Bike Maintenance shop) one Saturday arvo at short notice as there is nothing more pleasant than driving in Auckland traffic when its raining.I left my bike their and said no rush as I have another in the shed.I must compliment Dean on his outstanding communication and service. Deans friendly nothing is an issue attitude and service is superb.One of my minions who has BMW bike fetish picked it up for me today and has returned it to deepest darkest South Auckland which it a little closer to the winterless Waikato. Hopefully he will give it a clean.And on the subject of the bill as I hear so many complaints from bike owners servicing at dealerships (pick the soap up Brucie).  Deans bill was very unlike your first night at Mt Eden prison in the showers.In all a very pleasant experience. I would recommend the visit and shall be returning even from 130kms away.
