in reply to: 450 photo’s #10365
Is that third in the world of the German Cross Country Championship?
in reply to: 450 photo’s #10361Third behind Yamaha and BMW in what?
in reply to: OTRC F800 GS ? #10350The NZ market is almost completely irrelevant to BMW, but they will ship all the bikes that Experience can sell, you'll just have to wait for a while. Not having the numbers to sell here at the moment means that it is already a successful bike. I'd say they'll sell a truck load more F800GS's than they will G450X's, as the F800GS has fewer competitors in its class.
in reply to: 450 photo’s #10359BMWs don't have bugs, they are called idiosyncrasies, which is just one step away from being a feature. It will be great seeing one of those bikes go through the rough stuff.
in reply to: OTRC F800 GS ? #10348I am sure it will be a popular bike, worth waiting for.
in reply to: Made in China #10321check out the photo's - the GN250's of the last few years seem to have a rust problem and corrosion problem.
Suzukis have always been known for their affinity to rust. It's more a function of the low price than anything else.Apparently BMWs rust in places because of the environmentally friendly paint or finishes. I have seen R1200C's that will make this Suzuki look good.Possibly they are not hard enough on their slaves. The beatings should continue until the moral improves.
in reply to: OTRC F800 GS ? #10345They list the retail price at just above $19000, the bare bones F650 is $16500 or something like that. The thing is, such bikes don't really exist, as all the bikes coming into the country have higher options. so my guess is you'd be looking at close to $23000 for an F800 with the usual gimmicks. If I remember correctly the first demo is due in August and the first customer bikes in September. They've sold a few already.
in reply to: Dakar front wheel rim #10292I a currently considering taking my GS rims to him and getting him to lace up new black rims with pretty stainless spkes to make the bike more asthically appealing.
That would look pretty and you'd never have to clean them 😀
in reply to: 450 first ride #10300I hope it will be a good bike for you, it sounds certainly like a lot of fun.
It certainly is 🙂 Thanks for pointing that out.
in reply to: Gravel and off road ride – Auckland #10224I'd love to do this once a month, but unfortunately this won't be possible for me. Until the next term break I'll be flat out, including quite a few Saturdays. I am sure will be able to sneak in the odd ride. The R80 is in the garage, still covered in mud. With the rain forecast for tomorrow I might park it outside for a while, this should take care of most of it. A bit of a hose down and a brush will sort out the rest. If you pamper them too much they'll go soft :-).
in reply to: Gravel and off road ride – Auckland #10222That was a pleasant ride. Enough moisture to keep the dust down, but not get completely drenched. Next time I'll ride with my jacket liner installed, it did get a bit nippy. All the gravel roads are in a sad state at the moment. Luckily we came a across a grader working, because most roads where almost like sealed. Even Kaipara Hill roads is pretty smooth.Des had the gravel thing sorted and kept a good pace without drama. The Waikato gravel roads are probably more interesting, perhaps because I don't go there as often. If people are interested we could do a two day ride in that region in Spring. The idea would be to pick a fine weekend. The views are just so much better, while the gravel roads seem to be easier to ride in the wet.Fuel consumption on the R80 is right down. I glad all that wrenching has paid off.
in reply to: Gravel and off road ride – Auckland #10221Ok, see you tomorrow, should be fun.
in reply to: Gravel and off road ride – Auckland #10219Got the window in just in time. I still need to do a bit of finishing work, but it's pretty weather proof as it is.Do you want to come around to my place when you're ready? I still have to fill up the gear box with oil. I didn't have any washers to finish that job. We can then decide which way the weather looks better.
in reply to: Gravel and off road ride – Auckland #10217The weather forecast I had looked at has changed. Looks like Rain from Thursday onwards, right through the weekend.I need to install a window, and if I can get that done tomorrow afternoon, I should be able to go on Wednesday. We'd still get some rain, even then.I'll let you know tomorrow evening.
