Looks good apart from the centre stand looking like a bent coathanger  🙄Best colour too

That centrestand looks even worse in the flesh

That centrestand is very similar to the one on my R80. It's meant to hold the bike upright, not make a fashion statement.

We always ride up HW16, it's a much nicer than on the main road. You could meet us in Wellsford or at the corner of Kahikatea Road and Hw16, just before Kauakapakapa. We'll be coming from Peak Rd. I'll probably be on the R80GS, as the rear wheel bearing on the 1150 is now pretty much toast, it's had a little bit of play for a few thousand km, but now it has a lot of play. I am almost sure I can feel the movement while riding.

It will be better with a pipe though.  Typical BMW over-piping everything.DTY

So it's over-piped, but needs a pipe? Seems to me it needs a seat.

I thought we were going at  sensible pace in that video. All those little slips made me nervous. The only surprise was that pothole, but that's what the suspension is for. Good video Dave, I didn't know you were filming until I saw the camera at the last intersection. If you want I'll follow you and film for a while next time. It's quite useful to see yourself riding. What goes on in your head and what actually happens can be quite different. I like HW 22 because you can pretty much stick to the speed limit and still have a lot of fun.

Good to see a lot of new faces at the lunch ride today. The weather held, and apart from a bit of wind it was a great day for riding. Highway 22 was a lot of fun, as usual. However, it seemed to have suffered even more than usual from the rainy season. I lost count of all the slips. At one stage a crack had formed right across the road and this created a bit of a step. Those of us who didn't take the 30km limit seriously would have had a surprised look on their face. There was also one nasty pothole mid corner on a down hill section. Of course it was right on the best line to take. I managed to avoid most of it, but could still feel a bit of a bump. My new suspension seems to do its job though and handled the rough surfaces very well.On the way home I managed to pick up the tank for my R80. This should take the range of the bike very close to 400km, once I've got it all sorted.

Well, today I got to ride the F800GS. Pretty much only around town, with a short blat on the motorway. I'd love to get it onto a bit of gravel as well.I really liked it. Good ergonomics, very narrow seat. Comfortable suspension, firm but compliant. Hardly any fork dive, a lot less than expected anyway. The engine sounds like a little hornet, quite pleasant really. You can upgrade that with an Akrapovic, to a hornet with a deeper voice. It revs really well, and is quite quick. Quicker than my 1150. In third gear it will pull cleanly from 2500rpm, without a problem. You can still accelerate in 6th, I like that better than the overdrive 6th on the 1150. Shifting is effortless. The 21" front wheel is noticeable, it does not turn as quickly as a bike with a smaller front wheel. That was to be expected. I can see people fitting a taller front screen. Stock is probably ok in summer, but with the current chill in the air a taller screen would be nice. The F800GS feels really light compared to my usual rides. I would feel very comfortable taking this bike to an adventure ride. If I was buying today, I'd probably go for one of these, but only because I have an airhead as well. I just love the boxer engine. This should be a really good seller for BMW. To be fair, I haven't ridden a Ktm 990. The Ktm would be its nearest competitor in my opinion. The F800GS appears to be lighter still and due to that would probably provide similar performance. In the end it will come down to personal preference. I like the trellis frame of the F800, but the 990 is probably easier to keep looking clean, due the large amounts of plastic. I wonder which bike will be cheaper to service.

I've got the new Shoei Hornet and love it. It doesn't leak and the wind noise is bearable, you should wear ear plugs anyway. I use it every day. The only problem I had was that the screws holding the visor have fallen out twice now. They need to be checked occasionally.

However when I do buy a bike, I look for a bargain and don't buy it unless it is.

That's what I did too. Henry made me an offer I couldn't refuse :-). Well, it was an end of the line bike and left over from the previous year.

Please go out and buy one, and let me buy it from you in three years.

Good plan to get your hands on a clean bike  :-D. I've bought my bike new 5 1/2 years and 91000km ago. It hasn't depreciated a cent, as it's not for sale. I bought it to enjoy and use as often as possible and it still makes me as happy as the day I've bought it. It now has a slightly used look to it, but I prefer to call it patina. You are right of course, buying and selling bikes is a good way to lose money, even if you're a dealer :-). The trick is to buy one you really want and like, then spending a bit of money on it every now and then is not nearly as upsetting.

Will do. Hw22 is the way to go. The weather should be ok, we've hopefully used up all the rain during the last two months.

If you have the time ride up to Fletcher Bay. It is a neat trip, but a very narrow road and you'll be come coming the same way back for some of it. The scenery is stunning.See: http://forum.bmwor.org.nz/index.php/topic,216.0.html
