in reply to: First ride of the 450 #10951
Woodhill forest is a real blast and a pleasure on a light bike. You don't need much power to enjoy it, or there is a chance you will damage the trees. Woodhill should still be in range for your bike, without wearing out the tyres too much before you arrive.I can believe that you won't feel the seat while riding amongst the trees. I found that I needed to shed some gear very quickly, it does get quite hot very quickly. There are plenty of Enduro events you could take part in. You now have the equipment to do it with.
in reply to: First ride of the 450 #10947So will you be taking the racing 450 racing?
in reply to: Sept. 21 Register Ride to Tutukaka #10603Finally a ride without rain. I really enjoyed myself today. Those of you who didn't go north after Tutukaka missed out on great stretch of road and some awesome views. It was the first time ever that I rode through Hikurangi. It was like a time warp that took me back 20 years. We were following an old car as well, it was freaky. We took Hw16 back. Gerda needed a rest, her arm is still sore. We met Luigi at the Caltex where we stopped. I think he had enough of the Italian comfort on offer, maybe he was just missing his GS a little after today.Further down the road an unmarked police car was doing a brisk trade, I didn't see it at the time, NZ Police should stick to Holdens in support of our neighbours :-), a Nissan Maxima is just so unpatriotic. At Kaukapakapa his colleague had already pulled over a bunch of bikes, he was looking the other way as I passed. Then I realized that Gerda was no longer behind me and did a u-turn. She had been caught along with a bunch of bad boys :-D. The friendly traffic officer let her off. He said the first bike had been doing slightly over 120. I then realized that I had been the first bike, but they'd missed me, so they got her instead. Including Gerda there were four riders there, the first three were let off, the last one is now a pedestrian, thanks to the 153 km/h he'd been clocked at. He and his mate, both on KTM 950's, must have been chasing the Japanese Sport bike that was also there. The last one was unlucky and I couldn't help but laugh seeing Gerda caught up amongst them. He wanted to know if she had a full license, too.I'll really try from now on not to get sucked into anything above 115 km/h, it's just not worth it. There is plenty of fun to be had a lower speeds. We saw several more police cars, so we were pretty lucky this morning. I've got to say that I have no issues with what they were doing. Things would get out of hand on this road quite quickly.
in reply to: 42nd Traverse, interested? (Oct.4 & 5) #10884Looks like we've got 1 more rider to join us. Is anyone else keen?

in reply to: Sept. 21 Register Ride to Tutukaka #10596Can you give me a report on the weather ( road surface wet or dry?)Just cleaned the bike! Cheers Luigi
All good, it's safe to come.
in reply to: New F800GS at Experience #10666For those of you who are interested http://www.motorradzubehoer-hornig.de/en/news/122__BMW_F800GS_Off_Road_or_Touring.html
in reply to: Sept. 21 Register Ride to Tutukaka #10594I've never had track :-D.
in reply to: Sept. 21 Register Ride to Tutukaka #10592No need to apologize, nobody is keeping track. 😀 The weather should be fine, so I suspect that there will be plenty of riders attending.
in reply to: 42nd Traverse, interested? (Oct.4 & 5) #10881Aslan, that's not a problem. I'd go on that one as well if I'd the time. If the weather is unsettled we might follow in your tracks the following weekend. I haven't been on Kiwi road yet. I might just go and buy a detailed map of the area and get people in the know to point out the tracks. All of these rides will still be available for some time yet, I hope.
in reply to: Which Airhead battery? #8719Not a problem, it's W747.
in reply to: 42nd Traverse, interested? (Oct.4 & 5) #10874What are Papa slabs?
Papa is clay (Maori- earth or ground). It is very slippery. I hit a patch once at speed, just before Mount Damper, the seat still has pucker marks from that.Aslan, I'd love to come, but this is the busiest time of the year for me and I will have to work on Saturdays. Please keep track of the roads you'll go on, because we may do that instead if we get too much rain causing rising creek levels. I don't want to drown the bike and then push it for the rest of the way.
in reply to: Which Airhead battery? #8717This is the one I've bought. Works on cars as well.
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/motorcycle-battery-charger/I bought mine at motomail, money well spent.
in reply to: 42nd Traverse, interested? (Oct.4 & 5) #10873Imagine how far and how fast you could go in the alotted time.
Allowing for the occasional stop to clean out a mountain biker or two from under the chassis.
