It was the headline I had issues with. The rest of the article was fine. A lot of people only read the headline, and in this case I thought it was unfair. You could write that about any other group involved in a more dangerous activity. As a matter of fact I wonder how push bike riders fare in Auckland traffic. I suspect also that a quite a number of the victims were scooter riders. I have personally seen three down in the last year or so. Nothing against scooters, but recent fuel price increase have increased the number of inexperienced riders quite dramatically. Instead of making them the scape goat, I think the council should see them as part of the traffic solution around Auckland. Of course awareness campaigns will help, but a bit more policing of city traffic wouldn't go amiss either.Alex

Pssssssssssssssssssssst! 🙄I suppose we better go and ride push bikes then, or walk.  It's human nature to try and rationalize the risk. I've had some metal installed courtesy of ACC, but I am going to keep on riding. Still, it wouldn't hurt to improve rider's and driver's awareness. I see two wheels as part oft he traffic solution, if you factor in the waste of money form clogged roads, pollution etc. the cost for the odd titanium re-enforcement doesn't seem so bad. Alex

I was pleasantly surprised on the way the R1200GS handled the really crappy weather conditions we had, and I would happily do the same ride again.Ride Safe, Rob

You were definitely on a mission 🙂 Will we see you on the gravel ride July 1?Cheers,Alex

Thanks for the feedback Des. That hill section was difficult, no doubt. I hadn't been trough there in 4 years and I had forgotten what the road was like. I asked everybody if they wanted to go ahead and they did. Apart from that hill section it was pretty straight forward. But that's easy to say as I didn't have a pillion to look after. The return trip seemed a lot easier to me, as it had warmed up a little bit.  As for keeping up, you don't have to, you've got to ride your own ride. I should have stayed with you guys on the return trip.Coming home I had damp feet and damp underwear. The jacket held up alright. My Goretex gear just needs a wash and external water proofing and it will be fine again. I could have done with an extra jumper, but I did have a thermal underwear, a thermal shirt and a thermal liner. However, I am a bit sensitive to cold :-). My hands were dry, but my finger tips started to go a bit cold. For next year I will stay away from this far south to avoid the big freeze.Cheers,Alex

What's your point? The events will be listed on the homepage as usual, I gave you a reason for the delay. As you have pointed out, the newsletter contains the web address on the front page, therefore people will end up on the homepage and will  see Tony's ad. The forum statistics back this up. As a matter of fact, visits have nearly doubled in the last few months, so I am confident that Tony is getting more exposure from the website than he did when he first signed on as a sponsor.I am sure Tony appreciates your concern, but I don't think you have too much to worry about. Tony is a businessman and a supporter of the Register, I am sure if he had any concerns he would not hesitate to express them. As you are a businessman yourself, you may wish to consider placing an ad on the website in support of the Register.  Alex

Recently the whole website, including the forum was moved to a different server. As well as that, a different programming system has been used. As a result the admin page was the last item that came back online a week ago. Full functionality was only restored during the last couple of days.On the bright side, the rides have been published in the last two newsletters and they are listed under rides in the forum, as well as on the new ride calendar. Tomorrow's ride to Kawhia is also listed on the homepage under events. I hope  you have managed to find the information anyway. 😉Alex

Yes, it is hard to argue with the facts. I like to support my local dealer, but they are not making it easy sometimes. I hope the merger with Australia will make the prices a bit more equitable.  If not, there is always Visa and the Internet.

I glad you're on the road again. How much of the work did you do yourself? I've had to spend a bit of money on bikes lately, but I hope that's it for a while.

What might be the cost of NOT printing a newsletter?

We will never know, because nobody wants to stop the printed version. The default will be that you will continue to receive your newsletter as before, unless you choose not to. This no printed newsletter thing is a red herring and a non-issue.From an economic point of view it makes sense to give people the option not to receive a paper version, it also makes good environmental sense not to waste paper when it's not needed. Other than that, most people will never even notice that some people have opted out of receiving a paper version. It is not big deal at all.Tharon has chosen a sensationalist headline for his Poll to a attract attention. Well done Tharon :-).Oh, it's Freudian not Fruedian, sorry it's an occupational habit  😉 Please post a picture of your letterbox.Cool to have a discussion about this, if only more people made use of it.

I love constructive thinking :-).  Just keep in mind that I have no more to say in this than anyone else.

Seems the only bit of information not asked for on the survey is a membership number.  If you were really serious about accurate data you would canvas membership directly, either by hardcopy, electronic or both.

I can see only two options. One is to make the options on new applications available immediately and the second is to make the option available at renewal time. Everybody then gets exactly what they want. If I have understood correctly, the constitution requires a newsletter to be published, but doesn't specify the medium. The question is of course how the electronic version would function. I am not thrilled with the PDF system. I wonder if a password protected area of the website is an option. I suppose it would only work if the info could be cut and pasted into it.Good see a discussion on this.

Fair comment Malcolm.  I remember many meetings and at AGMs where the topic had been brought up. In those open forums people stated that they where quite happy to have more money spent on club activities. The silent majority must have stayed very silent. We never heard any complaints regarding the expenditure. It is a matter of balance, prices have gone up over the last few years and the scale has tipped the wrong way too far. By the looks of this it is going to be addressed now. If you have any suggestions you know who to contact. Nobody wants to see the hard copy scrapped. How can you make such a statement? Who wants the hard copy scrapped? Who says people can't have a choice. By core group I am talking about the Auckland section. I am not going to name the Luddites :-). They have as much right to their opinion as I have to mine. That's all you are getting here, my opinion, not a researched paper.Like I have stated before. I like the newsletter and don't want to see the paper version disappear, while at the same time I am happy to receive an email or online version if it helps to save money.

I agree Malcolm. However, the resulting deficit cannot be blamed solely on the current executive. When Graham and I were involved we agreed to spread more money into club activities, as this seemed to the wish of the majority. Most people had questioned the large bank balance.Cheers,Alex
