Merry Xmas to allSunday December 2, 12:31 PM Motorcyclists recovering after hitting police carTwo motorcyclists were recovering today after crashing into a police car which did a U-turn in front of them in the Upper Buller Gorge yesterday.The Police Complaints Authority has been called in to investigate the crash, which happened about 2.45pm yesterday on State Highway 6 in the Upper Buller Gorge.Senior Sergeant Eric Davy of Tasman Police said the police car, which was being driven by an experienced officer, did the U-turn after seeing a third motorcyclist allegedly speeding.As he was turning, the officer's car was struck on the left hand side by two motorcyclists.One motorcyclist was airlifted to Nelson Hospital with serious injuries, believed to include multiple broken bones, while the second was taken by land to Murchison Hospital. The policeman was not injured.Next ItemSH 6 was closed for about five hours to allow investigators to examine the scene.Sunday December 2, 03:45 PM Two dead after camper van and motorcycles collideTwo people are dead after a camper van and a number of motorcycles crashed in south Canterbury today.Emergency services were called just after midday to the crash on State Highway 79 between Geraldine and Fairlie.Two people were killed and another two injured, Inspector Stuart Leighton of the police southern communications centre said.The road was closed at the intersection with McMaster Rd and is not expected to reopen until 9pm. Diversions are in place.
