Before get this thread retires, I post two mail boxes from Japan. They are NOT typical in Japan, rather unusual.I found them on the street where they call "Old township street".They preserved traditional Japanese style houses for two street and they are famous tourist destination.Postbox 1 has the house hold name on the top (lid of the box) where mail is inserted. The top half says "Letter/Newspaper" with Japanese ZIP code mark. The bottom half says "Milk" and milk bottles are delivered there. There is no milk delivery service in the city. The box looks small for milk bottles but milk bottles in Japan are smaller than here  😀You need a house hold name (family name) for each house because street address alone do NOT identify a unique house. Therefore, the postman needs to know which house belongs to who to deliver mails.Postbox 2 is a strange mailbox, as it is just a basket.I noticed that it is a mailbox only because there was a newspaper in it.
