Just to add some balance to the discussion. 4 years ago I had a little 3 month holiday from riding, driving etc after accumulating 100pts (exactly) in the space of about 9 months after I got the bike. I have a K12 and it’s nearly impossible to prevent accidental speeding without spending more time watching the speedo than the road.
So I investigated rader detectors and it appeared that the Valentine was (and still is I think) one of the best. But it was not the solution that I chose. The other option I looked at was an ECC (electronic cruise control). Got one from Motorcycle Setup in Australia. The principle I decided to follow is that if you're not speeding in a high risk area - then you won't get caught. Seems to work for me - I haven't had a ticket on the scoot since, and that was about 4 years go. Cost at the time was similar so no pluses or minuses there.
Of course with the ECC there are many other benefits as well. Radar-detector doesn't let you take your right-hand off to stretch and relax on long trips. Also removes all the ANXIETY from the trip - set and forget - no more speedo watching - spend more time enjoying the ride and the country-side.
Of course in the low risk areas.....
I'm very happy with the ECC and frankly couldn't be bothered with a radar detector these days.
Whatever you decide - good luck and good riding.
