BMW Husqvarna Motorsport team rider Marko Tarkkala has successfully completed two further days of race development riding the new BMW powered 450cc Husqvarna enduro bike, placing in eighth and 10th position in the competitive Enduro 2 class at the GP of Poland. Following on from the bikes international debut at the GP of Italy on May 22/23, the GP of Poland ended with the new bike again having performed faultlessly. With no Friday night Super Test at the GP of Poland day one started with a tight, twisty and technical extreme test, followed by a long, sandy motocross test and a third forest based enduro test. With only limited time to test the bike in sandy conditions ahead of the event, Marko performed consistently throughout the first day placing as high as fifth in class on one of the 11 special tests. On day two Marko again rode consistently but was unable to match his pace from day one.Despite the BMW Husqvarna Motorsport team’s #1 rider Juha Salminen being unable to compete in Poland due to the Finn still recovering from ankle surgery, the seven-time World Enduro Champion is making good progress and is now up and walking. Salminen’s return to world championship competition is planned for the GP of Greece, which takes place in late August. The BMW Husqvarna Motorsport team will next be in action in the Enduro World Championship at the GP of Slovakia, which takes place on June 19/20.Marko Tarkkala – Enduro 2 class: ‘The first day didn’t go so well but generally it was ok. I crashed on the first test, which lost me some time. I’m just missing some speed. I feel like I’m riding well, but when I get to the end of the special tests I’m just not fast enough. The good thing was that we didn’t have any problems with the bike, which ran really well. We also used some new parts, which worked well. I’ve not been riding the new bike for very long so maybe I’m expecting too much, too soon. I’m looking forward to Slovakia next weekend, I’m hoping I can find a little more speed there.’
